Divemaster/Assistant Instructor
Divemaster is the first professional
level offered by Scuba Diving International (SDI). Divemasters act as teaching
assistants and dive leaders and are integral to the diver training programs
offered at "The" Dive Shop. This program is most commonly enhanced
with an Assistant Instructor program.
The function of the Divemaster/Assistant Instructor course is to develop the
candidate's knowledge and diving skill to an instructor level. "The"
Dive Shop offers this program on a group basis each spring and fall. Special
privatized programs for individuals can be offered year round.
The program uses the
SDI format and required text materials and is designed to prepare Divemasters
and Assistant
Instructors who
will work specifically with the TDS training program.
All candidates for the Divemaster/Assistant Instructor programs being taught at TDS
must meet with the Director of Training prior to enrolling in the program in
order to fully understand additional requirements of the Gold Program. It is
important that no candidate enroll in a professional level training program with
misguided expectations.
Pre-requisites: 18 years of age, at least 40 logged dives (60
dives by the end of the program), experience in deep diving, night diving,
navigation, search & recovery, have a current medical examination for diving
signed by a physician.
